Still waiting to hear more...

My Dad & I got to the hospital at 7:30 this morning. The nurse said nothing had changed since yesterday. About 9:30, the respiratory doctor came in & gave us a little more information - still not much. Basically to make it short - the bacteria has spread through out my mom's entire body. She has been sick "awhile." I wish I knew what that meant - it is such a relative term...1 month, 1 week, 6 months? The culture confirmed what they thought that her meningitis is Bacterial - Streptococcus Pneamonia. The lab results take longer to come back than I'd expect in an Intensive Care Unit. Because the infection formed inside her body, she shouldn't be contagious. Next step - labwork to see if the treatment is working & the infection is going away...We will let you know when we hear more.

Here is more about bacterial meningitis - streptococcus pneaumoniae (lots of times it is just referred to as meningitis pneumococcol). Although bacterial is much more serious than viral, pneaumoiae is apparently the most common form of bacterial meningitis.

Just waiting for good news, Nana! I know we'll get some soon!
